Nomenclature Note
Basionym: Q. urticifolia var. brevipetiolata A. DC. (1864). A synonym of Q. serrata Murray (1784) in the World Checklist and Bibliography of Fagales (1998), but maintained here.
Description
This variety is horticulturally distinct having subsessile leaves (petiole 3-5 mm long): the type variety has petioles 10-30 mm long.
