Quercus ×viveri Sennen ex A.Camus
Full name:
Quercus ×viveri Sennen ex A.Camus, Bull. Soc. Bot. France 82: 439 (1936) is a synonym of Quercus canariensis Willd., Enum. Pl. Hort. Berol.: 975 (1809).
Infrageneric Classification:
Subgenus Quercus, Section Quercus
Parentage:
Q. canariensis Willd. × Q. petraea subsp. huguetiana Franco & G. López
Nomenclature Note:
For Govaerts & Frodin, Q. ×viveri Sennen ex A. Camus (1936) was the hybrid between Q. canariensis and Q. petraea. This is also the view stated in Flora Ibérica (see here). The Oak Names Checklist used to list this as the hybrid between Q. canariensis and Q. petraea subsp. huguetiana Franco & G.López. We now follow Vázquez Pardo, F.M. et al. (2018) in considering it a synonym of Q. canariensis. Camus did not in fact publish this name, but rather expressed the taxonomic opinion that what Seenen distributed as Q. viveri was Q. canariensis (as Q. mirbeckii Durieu); see here. Quercus viveri was described by Sennen in 1928.
